What We Do

The Gulfport Coastline Coalition (GCC) is a citizen-led initiative dedicated to protecting coastal land in Gulfport, Florida. Our mission is to secure and steward land for community resilience and long-term conservation.

Our Current Focus

GCC began with a vision to acquire 5.67 acres along Boca Ciega Bay that was on the market. In May 2025, that parcel went under contract with a private developer, and as of October 1, 2025, the sale was still pending.

That vision remains alive, but our mission has grown larger than one piece of land. Today, we are working to safeguard Gulfport’s coastline as a whole — strengthening resilience through community-led adaptation, advancing nature-based solutions, ensuring public access to the waterfront, and aligning with regional and state planning goals.

This moment calls for bold stewardship. Together, we can transform vulnerability into resilience and shape a coastline that protects both people and place for generations to come.

No Wake Signs Now Available
Help Prevent Preventable Damage

Did you know, Florida now has a No Wake Law to stop drivers from pushing floodwater into homes? GCC's first public-facing initiative is here: No Wake yard signs to raise awareness and protect our neighborhoods. This is exactly what GCC does:  support community action, safeguard property, and steward our neighborhoods.

Why This Particular Land?

This parcel is what inspired the formation of the Gulfport Conservation Collective (GCC). It sparked our original vision — a bold idea to preserve and protect a place that represents both ecological vulnerability and great potential. While that vision is not feasible at this precise moment, it set everything in motion. It motivated us to organize, mobilize, and build a strong coalition. Now, if and when similar opportunities arise, we will be ready to act.

As of October 1, 2025, the parcel remains under contract with a private developer. Although there is strong public interest and the Gulfport City Council endorsing GCC’s efforts, the private sector often moves faster than the public process allows. This is still an active conversation, and GCC is working closely with other organizations in the region to navigate a rapidly changing landscape. We are committed to meeting this challenge, even as the challenge of rising seas grows.

In the meantime, we are focused on coalition-building and organizational development. Our goal is to strengthen long-term stewardship of Gulfport’s coastal resources. Even though this particular parcel may not be attainable today, we still hold a clear vision for it. We believe it is important to share that vision.

This site is located in a FEMA-designated high-risk flood zone (VE/AE), and its history tells a story of both loss and resilience. For many years, it was home to a row of small cottages that provided modest, affordable housing for Gulfport residents. Over time, storms caused increasing damage. After the devastating 2024 hurricane season, the buildings were demolished. What remains is a landscape marked by storm damage but filled with signs of natural recovery.

Today, native vegetation including mangroves, old oaks, and palms has taken root. These plants offer natural protection from flooding and storm surge, performing better than pavement or seawalls. Conserving this land is not only environmentally responsible. It is also a smart investment in public safety, community well-being, and Gulfport’s long-standing commitment to resilience.

This is a rare opportunity to turn past damage into future strength. By protecting land like this parcel, we could hold space that supports both native habitat and community connection, favoring nature-based solutions to acccelerating stormwater erosion. It would stand as a living example of how Gulfport can grow stronger by working with nature rather than trying to hold it back.
